From a very early age, we see the child's desire to participate in food preparation. It is best to set aside a shelf or cupboard in your kitchen which contains your child's equipment. A small stool may also be necessary for reaching the sink. For most preparation your child will work best at their own table.
An apron is always the first and last step of these exercises. The PVC aprons in this section are suitable as they clean easily and fasten at the sides, enabling the child to ready themselves for the activity. In our house there are three shelves belonging to our small children. One contains equipment for preparing food, the second contains child sized crockery, cutlery and glassware and the third contains foods which they can access and prepare independently (which eliminates the hungry, nagging, school child syndrome!).
Preparation of fruits and vegetables for morning tea is a great starting point. The most recommended process requires the child to prepare the food, set it aside, clean the preparation area and equipment, set the table and then sit down to their meal.
